Playing Music
Connecting to a Server
Section titled “Connecting to a Server”Tap any server in the Server List to connect. The app will:
- Establish a WebSocket connection
- Synchronize clocks with the server
- Begin receiving audio when the server starts streaming
A persistent notification appears with playback controls once connected.
Now Playing Screen
Section titled “Now Playing Screen”The Now Playing screen shows:
- Album artwork — Responsive sizing based on your device
- Track info — Title, artist, and album name
- Progress bar — Current position with elapsed and remaining time
- Playback controls — Previous, Play/Pause, Next
- Favorite button — Mark tracks as favorites (Music Assistant servers)
- Volume slider — Adjust device volume
- Group switcher — Switch between playback groups
Browsing Your Library
Section titled “Browsing Your Library”When connected to a Music Assistant server, you can browse your full music library:
Home Screen
Section titled “Home Screen”- Recently Played
- Recently Added
- Quick access to Albums, Artists, Playlists, and Radio
Library Tabs
Section titled “Library Tabs”- Albums — Grid view with cover art
- Artists — Portrait images and names
- Playlists — With creation dates
- Tracks — Full track listing
- Radio Stations — Internet radio streams
- Audiobooks and Podcasts — When available in your library
Search
Section titled “Search”Tap the search icon to search across your entire library. Results are grouped by type (albums, artists, tracks, playlists) with filter chips to narrow results.
Detail Screens
Section titled “Detail Screens”Tap any album, artist, or playlist to see its contents. From detail screens you can:
- Play Now — Replace the queue and start playing
- Play Next — Insert after the current track
- Add to Queue — Append to the end of the queue
- Add to Playlist — Save to an existing or new playlist
Queue Management
Section titled “Queue Management”Tap the queue icon to open the queue panel:
- View all upcoming tracks
- Swipe a track to remove it from the queue
- Save as Playlist — Save the current queue as a new playlist
Playback Controls
Section titled “Playback Controls”Lock Screen & Notification
Section titled “Lock Screen & Notification”When playing, controls are available from:
- The notification shade — Play/Pause, Previous, Next
- The lock screen — Media controls with artwork (Android 13+)
Bluetooth & Headset
Section titled “Bluetooth & Headset”Hardware media buttons are fully supported:
- Single press: Play/Pause
- Double press: Next track
- Triple press: Previous track
Background Playback
Section titled “Background Playback”Music continues playing when:
- The app is minimized
- The screen is turned off
- You switch to another app
The app runs as a foreground service to maintain uninterrupted playback.
