Remote Access

Remote Access lets you connect to your Music Assistant server from anywhere using a WebRTC connection tunneled through the Music Assistant Remote Access service.

  • A Music Assistant instance with Remote Access enabled
  • Your Remote ID from Music Assistant settings (26-character alphanumeric code)
  1. Open the Music Assistant web interface
  2. Navigate to Settings
  3. Find the Remote Access section
  4. Copy the 26-character Remote ID, or display the QR code for scanning
  1. In the Add Server wizard, choose Remote Access
  2. Select Scan QR Code
  3. Point your camera at the QR code displayed in Music Assistant settings
  4. The Remote ID is filled in automatically

Camera permission is required for QR scanning. If you deny the permission, you can enter the ID manually instead.

  1. In the Add Server wizard, choose Remote Access
  2. Select Enter Manually
  3. Type or paste the 26-character Remote ID (uppercase letters and numbers)

Remote Access uses WebRTC to create a peer-to-peer connection between your device and your home server, tunneled through Music Assistant’s relay service. This means:

  • No port forwarding required on your router
  • No dynamic DNS setup needed
  • End-to-end encrypted connection
  • Works on cellular data or any WiFi network

Remote connections are saved with your server configuration. The app stores up to 10 recent remote servers with their nicknames and last-connected timestamps.

You can configure both local and remote access for the same server. The app automatically uses the local connection when you’re home and switches to remote access when you’re away.

  • Higher latency than local connections (audio sync may be less precise)
  • Depends on Music Assistant’s Remote Access infrastructure
  • Requires an active internet connection on both your device and server
